Current Conclusions


  • Open access to HTML and page-scans has done us no financial damage; we believe it has increased sales
  • Our audiences are roughly equal parts wanderers, searchers, navigation-clickers, and explorers. Keeping no personal data, we do not know which populations do what.
  • 2003 experiment indicated that if PDF were free we would see some cannibalization.
  • 11-15% for sure (from experimental data)
  • PDF bundles (buy book and get PDF for small extra fee) are the most popular PDF sales approach
